We live in a time of low & pessimistic social and political expectations. Instead of arguing whether this is justified or not I suggest to ask the question: How do I think, feel and behave when my expectations are low, and how when they're high? And where do my expectations come from? You will see that most of it comes from the emotions spread by friends, strangers and media. Yes, we're back at crowd psychology - and I am part of the 'crowd'. And I also affect the people around me with my attitude. So, instead of copy&pasting the pessimism of 'the crowd' it's more healthy to think and evaluate for myself: Is it really that bad? (no, it's not). The effect is clear - with more dispassionate expectations I will feel lighter and will have a positive influence on my surrounding as well.
