In times when everyone has access to good information online, decent self-help books, academic research, TED talks, easy-to-understand youtube videos and outstanding wikipedia articles - what is the value of a real-life psychologist? In my opinion therapists have to move away from (pretending to) be a source of special information and applying fancy methods (that are available online) towards being a facilitator and sounding board for our clients. If there is a justification for my profession it's to compassionately help clients understand what they actually want in life, to overcome their fears & reservations, and to courageously apply their new insights to their normal lives.
